Fiverr Buyer Says Your Work Is AI: Evidence and Dispute Steps

By Freelance Signal Editorial Team Updated
A sealed creative delivery is reviewed between two neutral evidence paths.

An AI accusation can sound like a verdict, but on Fiverr it is part of a wider order review. Fiverr says it looks at the full context, including the buyer’s stated expectations, delivery quality and accuracy, customization, the freelancer’s meaningful input, and the parties’ communication. The useful question is not simply, “Can I prove a negative?” It is, “What does the order record show about the agreement, the workflow, and the delivered result?”

Checked August 14, 2026. This guide covers an active order or delivery dispute. It does not cover how to sell AI services, suspicious attachments, identity verification, or a platform suspension appeal. It also cannot predict how Fiverr will decide a particular case.

What Fiverr actually reviews when AI is alleged

Fiverr currently permits responsible AI use across service categories. It says AI may assist a freelancer, but it must not replace the freelancer’s own skill and effort. AI-assisted work must still be original, high quality, meaningfully refined, and customized to the client’s requirements. Generic, unmodified, or reused output does not meet the stated quality standard.

The buyer’s instructions matter too. Fiverr says a client who does not want AI should state that preference before placing the order or immediately afterward. It also says a freelancer must honor an explicit request for non-AI work and should align the workflow before or at the start of the order. Freelancers do not necessarily disclose every tool in a Gig, so the order record, not an assumption made after delivery, is central.

When a concern appears after delivery, Fiverr says it considers whether expectations about AI were communicated early, whether the result is accurate and tailored rather than generic, whether it reflects professional effort and meaningful input, and whether both parties communicated professionally. The same quality standards apply whether AI was used or not.

Separate the accusation from the issue that can be resolved
Buyer statement Question to establish Useful evidence
“This is AI.” What visible part of the delivery is allegedly generic, inaccurate, or inconsistent with the brief? Annotated comparison between the requirement and the delivered section
“I asked for no AI.” Was that instruction in the Gig, custom offer, requirements, or order messages before work began? Dated order text showing the instruction and your response
“The work is copied or reused.” Is the complaint about originality, rights, or merely style similarity? Source files, drafts, licensed assets, citations, and creation history
“I want a refund.” Is there a correctable scope or quality problem, a limited shortfall, or a request to end the order? Scope checklist, revision offer, partial-refund rationale, or cancellation record

Step 1: Freeze the order record before replying

Save what exists while the conversation and order page are available. Do not edit old messages, fabricate drafts, alter file dates, or create a false process trail. A smaller authentic record is more useful than a large folder that cannot be explained.

  • Save the Gig description or custom offer that defined the work.
  • Save the buyer’s requirements and all later scope changes.
  • Record any statement about AI, including when it was made.
  • Keep the exact delivered files and the delivery message.
  • Export or screenshot revision requests and your responses.
  • Record the current order state, deadline, and any open Resolution Center request.

If the buyer cites an AI detector, preserve the claim without accepting the score as conclusive proof. Fiverr’s published dispute factors focus on the order context, quality, customization, meaningful professional input, and communication. Build your response around those factors rather than turning the case into a debate about one external score.

Step 2: Build a compact evidence bundle

The bundle should let another reviewer reconstruct what was ordered, how the work developed, and whether the delivery met the agreement. Use a short index so each item has a purpose.

  1. Agreement: the Gig, custom offer, requirements, price, deadline, deliverables, and any explicit no-AI term.
  2. Process: genuine drafts, sketches, outlines, project history, version history, working files, or dated exports created during the job.
  3. Inputs and rights: client-provided material, your own sources, stock or font licenses, citations, and permissions relevant to the delivery.
  4. Customization: a requirement-to-delivery map showing where the buyer’s names, brand rules, dimensions, data, examples, or requested structure appear.
  5. Quality response: a list of each concrete error alleged, whether you agree, and the correction you can make within scope.
  6. Communication: the shortest message sequence that shows questions, approvals, revisions, and responsiveness.

Use native or editable source files when they genuinely belong to the agreed deliverables, but do not disclose unrelated client work, private prompts, credentials, proprietary material, or another customer’s files. If a voice, likeness, or image-editing job depends on third-party material, include the authorization or license you actually relied on. Fiverr’s AI services guidance emphasizes rights and permission for voice, likeness, and source content.

Evidence is not a performance. Do not recreate sketches after the accusation, backdate files, or claim a tool was not used if it was. Fiverr warns that deception or misrepresentation about how work was delivered can become a trust breach.

Four evidence cards show the brief, drafts, source files, and revision history.
Preserve authentic process evidence before responding to an AI-use allegation.

Step 3: Check the no-AI instruction and disclose accurately

Read the record in chronological order. If the buyer clearly requested non-AI work before or at the start of the order, compare that term with what you actually did. Do not redefine “AI” after the fact to make the record more convenient. If a tool was used, describe its role accurately and explain your own work, review, correction, and customization.

If there was no explicit non-AI term, do not answer as if that automatically wins the dispute. Fiverr still expects a high-quality, original, tailored delivery that reflects the freelancer’s skill and meaningful input. A buyer can raise a real accuracy, originality, rights, or quality problem even when AI was not prohibited.

If you did not use generative AI, say so once and support the statement with the authentic process record. Avoid absolute claims that your file metadata, a detector, or a single screenshot “proves” authorship. Your goal is a coherent account, not an impossible certificate.

Step 4: Ask for the specific defect and offer the narrowest remedy

Move the conversation from a label to testable details. Ask the buyer to identify the exact passages, frames, elements, or files that do not meet the brief. Then respond item by item.

  • If the complaint is a correctable mistake within scope, offer a defined revision.
  • If requirements changed, state the original scope and propose a documented change or delivery extension.
  • If only part of the order is unsatisfactory, consider whether a partial refund fits the actual shortfall.
  • If the work cannot be brought into scope, evaluate cancellation as the last resort.

Fiverr’s current Resolution Center guidance says a freelancer can offer a partial refund of up to 60 percent of the original order price for scope changes, delays, or minor dissatisfaction. If accepted, that page says the freelancer’s performance metrics are not affected, but no further refund request can be made on that order. Do not offer a percentage merely to make the accusation disappear. Tie the amount to a specific unresolved part of the order.

A neutral reply you can adapt

Thanks for flagging the concern. Please identify the exact parts of the delivery that you believe do not meet the brief, including any accuracy, originality, or customization issue. The agreed scope was [one-sentence scope], and the order record shows [relevant instruction about AI, if any]. I can provide [two or three authentic process items] and a requirement-to-delivery comparison. For the specific issues listed, I propose [defined revision, scope change, or other remedy] by [realistic date]. I would like to keep the discussion focused on the agreed requirements and a workable resolution.

Keep the reply factual. Do not insult the buyer, accuse them of refund abuse without evidence, threaten public exposure, or flood the conversation with dozens of unexplained screenshots.

Step 5: Choose the correct Fiverr order path

Order state determines the available route
Order state Best next action Important limit
Active, no formal request Clarify the alleged defect in order chat and offer a precise remedy. Communication alone does not change the deadline or scope.
Active, more time would solve it Request a delivery extension and explain what will be completed. The added time is calculated from the original delivery date.
Active, limited shortfall Consider a documented partial refund. Fiverr currently caps the offer at 60 percent, and an accepted offer ends further refund requests for that order.
Active, cancellation requested Read the request and respond before the 48-hour window ends. No response can result in automatic acceptance and cancellation.
Completed or canceled Contact Customer Support with the indexed evidence bundle. The Resolution Center is unavailable for completed or canceled orders.

The Resolution Center is reached from the order page. Fiverr says its requests go directly to the other party and do not notify Customer Support. The other party generally has 48 hours to accept or decline, and an unanswered request is automatically accepted. You may withdraw your request before it is accepted or declined.

Only one relevant request can be open at a time. Fiverr says an existing request involving an update, extension, or cancellation must be withdrawn before another can be opened. Check what is already pending before you click anything.

Step 6: Treat cancellation as a decision, not a threat

A client can request cancellation of an active order through the Resolution Center. Fiverr’s freelancer cancellation guide says the freelancer has 48 hours to accept or decline, and no response automatically cancels the order. The same general response window applies when the freelancer requests cancellation.

There are special states. A client may cancel before submitting requirements, and a very late undelivered order may be canceled without freelancer approval 24 hours after the expected delivery time when there was no mutual extension. Completed orders cannot be canceled through the Resolution Center and require Customer Support.

Cancellation can affect earnings, performance metrics, and search visibility. Fiverr says all cancellations are considered, while some scenarios have lower or no impact on Order Completion Rate. It does not provide a safe promise that an AI-related cancellation will leave your Success Score or visibility unchanged. Preserve the outcome and the reason Fiverr displays, but do not infer an exact score change.

Never send an empty delivery or incomplete work merely to stop the clock. Fiverr explicitly identifies that behavior as a Terms of Service violation that may trigger account review.

When to contact Customer Support

Contact Support when the order is already completed or canceled, when the parties cannot resolve the active dispute, or when the interface does not provide the route documented for the order state. Submit a concise chronology, not a general essay about AI. The evidence principles transfer across marketplaces, but the deadlines do not; for a Freelancer.com project, follow the Freelancer.com milestone dispute workflow instead of carrying Fiverr timing across platforms.

  • Order number and current status
  • One-sentence agreed scope
  • The exact buyer allegation
  • Whether a no-AI term existed before or at the start
  • Numbered evidence items
  • Revision, extension, partial refund, or cancellation already proposed
  • The specific decision or clarification you are requesting

Fiverr says a proven trust breach, including deception about the delivery method, misrepresentation of AI use, or failure to meet quality standards, can lead to cancellation, a full refund, and account action. This article does not cover an enforcement appeal. If Fiverr sends a separate warning, restriction, or suspension notice, preserve that notice and use the Fiverr suspension appeal guide for that new problem state.

What not to mix into this dispute

If the buyer sent an unfamiliar file, repository, link, or QR code, stop and use the Fiverr suspicious file and link safety checklist. A malware-handling question is not evidence that a delivery was or was not AI-generated.

If Fiverr separately asks you to confirm your identity, follow the Fiverr identity verification workflow. An order complaint does not replace that process.

A final pre-response checklist

  • Have you saved the scope, requirements, delivery, revisions, and current order status?
  • Can you quote the exact no-AI instruction, or accurately state that none appears before work began?
  • Does every process item come from the real project timeline?
  • Have you separated quality defects from the broad AI label?
  • Is your proposed revision, extension, partial refund, or cancellation tied to a specific issue?
  • Have you checked whether a Resolution Center request is already open?
  • Do you know when the 48-hour response window ends?
  • Are you avoiding promises about Fiverr’s final decision or metric impact?

The strongest response is usually calm and reconstructable: this was the agreement, this was the real process, this is how the delivery maps to the brief, and this is the narrow remedy for any proven gap. That record is more useful than a detector argument, a blanket denial, or an automatic cancellation.
